Celebrating Mother’s Day is lots of fun and we all know how much children love to make and create special things for their Mums to celebrate. Here you will find an array of Mother’s Day activities for your classroom (or home) that are super cute and fun!
Mother’s Day Pampering Session
If you have not done this in your classroom yet, then you must try it now (if you are lucky enough to have very few Covid-19 restrictions like us)! Every year I hold a Mother’s Day pampering session in our classroom for our Mums (or Aunties, Nannas, big sisters… the list goes on). It is always such a hit with not only the Mums, but the children too. You can read all about my Mother’s Day pampering sessions here.
Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
There are literally hundreds of Mother’s Day activities and gift ideas to make with a quick search on Pinterest, however below is my most popular handmade gift that we have made in our classroom, along with a couple of card ideas.
Salt Dough Necklaces
One of the most well-loved Mother’s Day gifts that I have made with my students were these super cute salt dough necklaces. They were so inexpensive and simple to make and the end product was just gorgeous!
We simply make the salt dough in small groups (there are heaps of recipes online) and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shapes. Make sure to make a hole at the top for the string later! We leave them to dry over a couple of days, but you can also bake for a couple of hours at a low temperature.
Then simply thread onto a piece of twine and add some beads.
Oil Pastel Mother’s Day Cards
These cute cards are simple, but effective. To achieve this effect, use oil pastels to make small dots around the edge of the white shape (we used a heart, but you can use any shape you wish). Use a cotton tip to drag and smudge the oil pastel inwards. Simple, fun, effective!

Mother’s Day Purse Craft
This adorable Mother’s Day activity is simple and lots of fun to make. It makes a cute keepsake and gift for Mum on her special day. After cutting, folding and assembling the purse, students can choose from a selection of inserts to place into the purse, including tokens for jobs. Both Mum and Mom spelling are included. Mother’s Day Flip Book
This Mother’s Day Flip Book is a gorgeous keepsake for Mum. I especially enjoy this Mother’s Day activity because of the responses the children make to each of the prompts in the flip book. This activity will always bring a smile to your face and especially to your students’ mother’s faces!
Mother’s Day Craft With 100s and 100s
This Mother’s Day activity screams cuteness and is sure to be a favourite with your students and their Mum’s. This has got to be one of the most simple gifts to make and is so effective! Simply cut out the heart shape, place glue in the middle, sprinkle with 100s and 1000s and leave to dry. Find the 100s and 1000s Mother’s Day Craft here.
I truly hope you have found some fun and wonderful Mother’s Day activities to do in your classroom (or home). Every Mum deserves to be spoilt on Mother’s Day!
